Songwriting From Tin Pan Alley To Music Row: Starting With A Title with Steve Leslie
Mondays, 6-8 PM
June 8th, 15th, 22nd
1012 Buchanan St.
$150
For decades preceding the Singer-Songwriter explosion of the late ’60’s, when songs were primarily written for other artist’s to perform, most were written from an objective point of view; it’s not about the writers' personal feelings as much as a statement anyone can sing. Songs were more often crafted by starting with an idea or title. This is still the most common practice in Country Music co-writing today.
This class will teach you:
Where song ideas and titles can be found and the difference between the two
How title placement creates form
What a Setup Line and Payoff Line is
How and when to use Framing Rhyme
When to use Perfect Rhyme and Near Rhyme
Principles of narrative development
Students will be given song titles to co-write in class, as well as the skill-set to develop their own ideas long after the course has ended.
No musical instruments required, just bring something to write with!
