Explore the rich tapestry of Brazilian music and its profound influence on American jazz and popular music. Inspired directly by instructor Thea Danos’ experiences spending time in Brazil, this class traces the rhythms, harmonies, and cultural exchange that brought bossa nova, samba, and more into the American soundscape. Through listening, discussion, and vocal exploration, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the global language of music and the ties that bind two musical worlds.
