Steve Goold | "You Are What You Eat" Clinic on Brian Blade
Sunday, August 17th, 2-4PM
Nashville Jazz Workshop
Drummer and educator Steve Goold presents an in-depth look at the music and influence of one of the most expressive drummers alive today: Brian Blade.
This event is free, with a $10 suggested donation for those who are able.
This unique listening clinic is part of You Are What You Eat, a series built on Steve’s immersive approach to musical study—hundreds of hours spent analyzing the catalogs of his favorite drummers to better understand what makes their sound so distinct, powerful, and influential.
In this session, Steve will walk through what makes Brian Blade’s drumming so instantly recognizable—and so hard to imitate. From his work with Wayne Shorter and Joshua Redman to Joni Mitchell and his own Fellowship Band, Blade has carved out a sound that’s deeply personal, wildly dynamic, and full of heart. Steve will share audio examples, break down key musical moments, and offer insights into how Blade’s approach can reshape your own musicianship.
Whether you’re a drummer, a non-drummer, or simply a fan of masterful musicianship, this clinic will deepen your appreciation for one of the most expressive and revered drummers in the world.
