This class helps intermediate guitarists learn how to intentionally build jazz solos that sound musical, connected, and personal. By crafting solos as reusable etudes, you’ll strengthen your ear, deepen your understanding of harmony, and improve how you navigate chord changes in real time.
We’ll cover chord–scale relationships, target notes, voice leading, rhythmic phrasing, motivic development, and chord soloing. You’ll learn how to create lines that follow the harmony, use tension and release effectively, and turn written ideas into confident improvisation.
Open to intermediate to advanced guitarists.
What students are saying
"He was an excellent teacher and his class was one of the best I’ve taken at the Workshop. He was organized. He had a lesson plan. He prepared and distributed very helpful handouts to illustrate and reinforce the concepts he was teaching. He gave us “homework” to practice between classes. He observed the class and adjusted the pace of his teaching to the pace of the class. He was encouraging. And his enthusiasm for the subject matter made the class very enjoyable."
