From Brazil to Buchanan Street: Thea Danos & the Nashville Samba Society

Saturday, May 2nd, 7:30 PM

Nashville Jazz Workshop

Thea Danos and the Nashville Samba Society join together for a night of nostalgia and glamour to honor the music of mid-century Brazil. The 1950s through the late 1970s mark a time in Brazilian and American history where borders were crossed and melodies were shared to create the smooth soundtrack we all know and love. The overlapping catalogues of Antônio Carlos Jobim and Francis Albert Sinatra. João Gilberto and Ella Fitzgerald. Thea is consumed by these “chords” of connection and is excited to highlight and share them with you on May 2nd at the Nashville Jazz Workshop with some of the city’s finest musicians.

About Thea Danos:

Thea Danos is a Nashville-born vocalist whose romantic, “old soul” sound bridges the smoky jazz clubs of 1950s New York with the intimate bossa nova salons of early-1960s Rio de Janeiro. Specializing in American jazz and Brazilian bossa nova, her performances are defined by warmth, elegance, and an unmistakable sense of timelessness.

Raised in a musical family, Danos began touring internationally at the age of fifteen as both a lead and backing vocalist, traveling the world and performing across a wide range of stages. She continues to be a fixture in the Nashville music scene, performing weekly downtown Nashville while maintaining an active international performance presence.

In 2024, Danos released her debut record, marking a significant milestone in a career that has already spanned global touring, extensive studio work, and live performance. Since her early teens, her soft, sincere vocals have been featured on countless recordings, earning her a reputation as a trusted and in-demand singer in some of Nashville’s top studios, following her family’s legacy in the music industry.

Deeply committed to honoring the traditions she carries forward, Danos is especially proud of the time she spent in Brazil, where she devoted herself to mastering Portuguese phonetics in order to authentically interpret the music she loves. This immersion shaped not only her sound, but her philosophy as a vocalist—approaching each song with reverence, curiosity, and emotional honesty.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Elis Regina, Astrud Gilberto, Milton Nascimento, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and João Gilberto, Thea blends the technical mastery and expressive depth of these influences into a signature style uniquely her own.

Whether performing on international stages, in recording studios, or in intimate live settings, Thea Danos brings a rich, inviting tone that welcomes listeners into a deeply personal experience of song. Above all, she strives to share not only her love of music, but her love of the audience, making every performance feel like home.
