John Hendricks
Jazz legend John Hendricks
-- father of "vocalese" -- was
in town for a February 14
concert in the Vanderbilt
Great Performances series
at Ingram Hall. John visited
the Jazz Workshop the day
before for a reception and
mini-performance in the
Jazz Cave. Those in
attendance were captivated
by John's infectious spirit
and love of the music.
Stories about Count Basie,
Thelonious Monk, and Miles
Davis brought home that this
is a jazz giant who has
walked among giants. The
reception, and the next
evening's concert by his
new group, "LHR Redux,"
were unforgettable evenings
for the Nashville jazz
community.
