Live from the Workshop

The Jazz Workshop and WMOT had long wanted to do a radio broadcast of music recorded at the Workshop, but the idea didn't take off until Laina (pictured at right) and Mark Stanford approached Lori and Roger with the nuts and bolts. Laina, a longtime NJW vocal student and member of the original NJW Vocal Ensemble, had a background in radio from her college days. Mark, a video and audio engineer, is a wizard in all things sonic. Together they made it happen. Mark helped wire the Jazz Cave for sound and recording, and we began making live recordings of the twice monthly "Snap on 2 & 4" series. Laina has edited these for radio broadcast and added commentary, and we now have a first-class radio broadcast. Every Sunday at 4 pm audiences in Middle Tennessee (and around the world, thanks to live Internet streaming) can hear music from the Jazz Workshop. In September 2006 the cave received a major upgrade of its recording facilities thanks to Mark, Tom Knox, Jules Delgado, and Jeff Hall. You'll hear the results in future radio broadcasts.
