Lou Outlaw, Photographic Works

Lou Outlaw is a Renaissance Man. Professor of Philosophy and Associate Provost at Vanderbilt, he is also an accomplished photographer. NJW is honored to host this showing of Photographic Works.

Artist's Statement: I continue to marvel at the experiences of meaningful engagements with photographs, of human beings in particular; to marvel at what striking photographs elicit -- sometimes compel -- from the viewer who works at making meaningful sense of photographic images. I marvel, too, at seeing respect-inspiring beauty in the face, posture, composure, gestures, dress . . . of a person in moments of the otherwise mundane.

I experience in picture-making great pleasure and excitement and pursue the work of enhancing my craftsmanship and artistry with passion and joy . . . it is my sincere hope that viewers of my photographs gain both insight and pleasure from what is disclosed through their engagement with the images. -- Lou Outlaw

Opening reception TBA

Tony Monaco
Friday & Saturday, July 17-18, 8 pm| Tony Monaco
Organ virtuoso Tony Monaco returns to Nashville for two high-octane shows in July! Tony was a smash hit on his last visit here. He's back this year for the NAMM show, and while here he'll perform two nights in the Cave. Once again he'll be joined by drummer Chester Thompson and guitarist Andy Reiss for a swinging trio.

Admission $25, $15 H.S. & college students, tickets on sale Monday, July 13

Joe Davidian
Friday, July 24 | Snap on 2&4 w/ the Joe Davidian Trio
In his short time in Nashville, pianist Joe Davidian has established himself as a major musical force. With taste, chops, and lush, sensitive voicings, he's in demand as a solo pianist and accompanist for vocalists and small groups. Much rarer are his appearances with his longtime trio, composed of Joe, bassist Jamie Ousley, and drummer Austin McMahon. The group performs jazz standards along with originals composed by all band members, inspired by the great piano trios of jazz masters Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett and Oscar Peterson. If you haven't heard the JD3 yet, you're in for a treat -- their music is really something special!

Admission $15, $8 H.S. & college students, tickets on sale Monday, July 20

Jam Session
Sunday, July 19, 7:30 pm| NJW Jam Sessions
By popular demand, the Jazz Workshop has re-instituted its regular jam sessions for students, faculty, and musicians from the community. These are open jams for intermediate-to-advanced level musicians, led by NJW faculty and anchored by a professional rhythm section. July 19 is an instrumental jam -- note the new time.
