Improv UndergroundSunday, August 29 4:00pm 948 35th Ave North, Nashville, TN Are you hearing the other music? The Improv/Underground is Nashville's new, monthly house concert series dedicated to presenting some of Nashville's progressive and energetic improvisers. Hosted in an historic and uniquely intimate listening room, listeners can relax and experience an uninhibited display of musical messages through swing, grooves, free time and all in between. Recent events at Improv/Underground have included budding composers and instrumentalists such as alto saxophonist Reagan Mitchell, tenor saxophonist Chris West, spoken word artist Tracy Pendegrass and pianist Paul Horton. The Improv/Underground is hosted by Greg Bryant, Kandes Dungey and Teree McCormick. The series is held the last Sunday afternoon of each month from 4-6p.m. All ages are welcomed and patrons may enjoy their own food and beverages. A minimum $5 cash donation is accepted at the door and reservations are available by emailing watchmanmusicgroup@hotmail.com or by calling 615-429-5429. On Sunday, August 29th. Pianist, keyboardist and composer Paul Horton will unveil his new project "Paul Horton's Rogue State" featuring renowned drummer Derrek Phillips, and the rising star talents of violinist Billy Contreras and bassist Jon Estes. As one of Nashville's best young improvisers, Paul Horton has performed with global jazzers such as saxophonist Victor Goines (Wynton Marsalis Septet) and drummer Steve Ellington (Dave Holland Quintet) and is a frequent contributor to many of the city's forward leaning groups such as Derrek Phillips' Manufactory, El Movimiento, Chris West Ensemble and The Reagan Mitchell Quartet. The Nashville Scene calls Improv/Underground, "the best way to while away a hot Sunday afternoon.... an oasis in Nashville's jazz desert for local fans."
